Everything you need to know before booking your family photo session

FAQ’S

If you’ve been thinking about booking a family photoshoot on the Gold Coast, you probably have a few questions - maybe even a long list! From weather worries to what to wear, I’ve answered some of the most common questions I get asked as a storytelling family photographer so you can feel relaxed, prepared, and genuinely excited for your session.

what if we feel awkward in front of the camera?

You’re not alone - almost every family tells me this before their session! The good news? You don’t need to pose or perform. My approach is relaxed and connection-driven, which means I’ll gently guide you into natural movement and moments that feel like you.

So if you’re worried about feeling awkward, I promise: you won’t. My job is to help you feel completely at ease so you can just be present with your family. Those are always the images that end up being your favourites. Don’t take my word for it, check out how other families have felt about their sessions.

what happens if it rains on our session day?

We shoot outdoor sessions no matter what, except in heavy rain or wind. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, I’ll reach out on the day (or earlier) to chat through options - whether that’s rescheduling or switching to an in-home session. If you’re holidaying on the Gold Coast, I’ll do my best to start earlier or move things around so we don’t miss the opportunity.

how long will it take to get our images?

You’ll receive your full gallery within three weeks of your session. I’ll send it straight to your inbox (and text you too, because I know how busy life gets). You’ll be able to download your high-resolution files, share them, and order prints right from your gallery.

when is full payment due?

To secure your session date, there’s a $400 booking deposit. The remaining balance is due three days before your session. If you’d like to upgrade your collection after seeing your gallery, that’s always an option too - no pressure.

how do we choose a location?

Once you’ve booked, we’ll chat about what kind of setting best fits your family. Maybe it’s your home, a local bush area, or your favourite Gold Coast beach. I’ll guide you based on the light, the mood, and what feels most true to your story.

what time of day do sessions take place?

Outdoor sessions are typically held at sunrise or sunset when the light is soft, golden, and flattering. In-home sessions usually happen mid-to-late morning when your home is filled with beautiful natural light - or in the afternoon if that suits your family’s rhythm better.

how long does a session go for?

Most sessions run for around an hour, but I never rush. There’s time for snacks, cuddles, nappy changes, and play breaks - especially for at-home sessions. My goal is to create a calm, unhurried experience where everyone can just relax and be themselves.

what if my kids don’t sit still?

Perfect - I don’t want them to! I love movement, play, and connection. My approach to family photography is storytelling, not posed perfection, so your kids can simply be themselves. We’ll play, explore, and create images that feel alive.

In all my years of photographing families, I’ve never met a child who didn’t enjoy being completely absorbed in play and connection with their parents. Your session is a beautiful chance to block out the noise of everyday life and lean fully into being together - kids thrive on that kind of attention and joy, and it always shines through in your photos.

what should we wear?

Once you’ve booked, I’ll send my What to Wear & Location Guide - filled with examples and easy styling tips. I’ll help you choose tones that photograph beautifully and reflect your environment. The key is comfort and movement - clothes you can snuggle and play in and that feel 100% like you.

do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes! Gift vouchers make such a heartfelt gift for new parents, grandparents, or families celebrating milestones. You can purchase one for a full session or contribute any amount toward a future shoot.

how much does a photo session cost?

I offer a range of family, newborn, and maternity photography packages to suit different seasons of life. Every collection includes access to my signature storytelling approach, a personalised experience, and an online gallery of hand-edited images.

Families typically spend around $1,300 on average, and I offer interest-free easy payment plans so you can spread out the cost. Booking now and paying as you go makes it easy and stress-free.

You can view all pricing and details here.

can we order prints or albums?

Absolutely. Your online gallery connects to a professional print lab where you can order prints, frames, or albums directly from your session. Everything is printed on archival-quality paper, ensuring your memories last a lifetime.

how far in advance should we book?

I only take a limited number of sessions each month to ensure every family gets my full attention. For peak seasons (autumn and spring), it’s best to book 2–3 months ahead. If you’re visiting the Gold Coast, contact me early so we can secure your travel dates.

what if someone is sick on the day?

No stress - if you or your child aren’t feeling well, we’ll simply reschedule at no charge. The same goes for me, I won’t turn up unwell, especially around newborns. You can reschedule twice without any fees, and all the details are clearly outlined in your booking agreement.

will you retouch our images?

I believe in authentic storytelling photography - clean, honest, and beautiful. I spend hours editing each gallery to achieve my signature look, but I don’t do heavy retouching or body reshaping. If you’d like advanced edits, I can provide a quote, but if you’re looking for overly airbrushed or manipulated images, I’m probably not the right photographer for you (and that’s okay!).

do you offer refunds?

Your booking deposit is non-refundable, but you can absolutely reschedule your session within 12 months if life happens. I’ll always do my best to accommodate changes as I know life with little one is a mixed bag and things come up.

can we include pets, extended family, or travel outside the gold coast?

Yes! Pets are always welcome at home sessions, and can often join outdoor shoots where it’s safe and allowed. I photograph a small number of extended family sessions each year - so if you’d love to include grandparents or relatives, reach out early to check availability.

And yes, I love to travel! Whether you’re in Brisbane, Northern NSW, the Sunshine Coast, or beyond, I’m happy to come to you. Travel costs are quoted individually - just reach out so we can plan the details.

ready to capture your story?

Whether you’re dreaming of an in-home session full of snuggles and slow mornings, or a golden sunset shoot at your favourite Gold Coast beach, every family session is crafted to tell your story - honestly, beautifully, and in a way that feels like home.
